How do I create an account?

Just head over the to Sign Up page and you’re just a few short minutes away from opening your own gift list.

How do I get paid?

After you have signed up, we guide you through the super-simple process of creating a payment account. We use an excellent service called Stripe that will allow all of the funds raised through your gift list to be paid directly to your personal bank account. Once your payment account is set up and verified, any money will be automatically transferred from there to your bank account every 7 days.

What are 'transaction fees'?

We take a percentage fee per transaction through your gift list based on your account plan. You can see our simple pricing plans here, along with the account costs and transaction fees.

What are 'card processing fees'?

Any website that takes payments, from eBay to that cute wool store that sells yarn online, must do so through a payment processor – that is, a service that authorises credit & debit card transactions with banks and sends the charge to you. All online payment processors charge a fee per transaction. We use Stripe because they’re easily the best payment processor we’ve worked with, and allow us to transfer funds from purchases made through your gift list directly to you with minimal fuss.

As of June 2017, the card processing fees are 1.4% + £0.20p per transaction for European cards, and 2.9% + £0.20p per transaction for non-European cards.

Can I use my PayPal account instead?

At this time we do not offer PayPal account integration. However, creating a payment account is completely free and we do most of the hard work for you, integrating with Stripe directly. In addition, the card processing fees available are lower than PayPal’s, meaning you get to keep more of the money you raise.

Can I upgrade my account?

Yes! Once you have signed up and your account is authorised, you can upgrade your package at any point and only pay the difference in plan prices. Any purchases made through your gift list after you have upgraded will have the new, lower transaction fee applied.

Head over to your account page to see if you have any upgrades available.

(Note that all existing transactions will have already been charged at your previous plan’s transaction fee – upgrading your account will not change those previous fees retroactively)

Can I downgrade my account?

Unfortunately not at this time.

Can I delete my account?

We’re sorry to see you go! If you definitely want to delete your account, please contact Support directly and we’ll run a quick security check before permanently removing your account.

Please note that, unlike closing your gift list, this action is permanent and cannot be undone.

My Gift List

Can I change my gift list's header / image / welcome message / thank you message?

Absolutely! Just head over to your account page and click on the My Gift List or My Profile tab to change any part of your gift list or profile.

Can I change what gifts are available on my gift list?

You sure can. Gifts are arranged into categories – House (for things like bricks, doors, paint, etc.), Furniture (lamps, beds, sofas), Appliances (coffee machines, toasters), Extensions (sheds, garages), and Personal Gifts (books, tickets, smartphones, etc.).

Just head over to your account page and click on the My Gift List tab; then check or uncheck the gift categories you want to display. You can change this at any time.

I can't see my gift list / my gift list says it's not ready yet

For your gift list to be open and available to your friends and family, you need to complete the three main sections on your account so that they’re all approved with a green check mark (check-fat). This includes creating your payment account and completing your account details there.

Head over to your account page to check that all of your account details have been completed.

(In rare instances an account may be suspended, which would also result in the associated gift list no longer being available. In these cases, Support would contact the account owner directly)

Can I close my gift list?

Absolutely – just head over to your account page and scroll to the bottom of the page. You should find a small text link that says Close my account. Click this link, enter your password and confirm that you wish to close your gift list.

You can re-open your gift list at any time.

My Payments

How does money get transfered to my bank account?

Once you have created your BuyABrickForUs account, you simply need to add your bank details, then click a button to confirm your details and we will automatically create your payment account for you.

We also recommend that you upload some valid identification (for example a passport or driving license) for your bank to securely verify your account. After that point, the payment processor will be able to automatically transfer funds to your bank account every 7 days. Note that, for UK bank accounts, there is a minimum transfer balance of £1 GBP.

Note that, as long as both Charges and Transfers are enabled on your payment account, then you can continue to receive donations directly to your bank account even before your account is verified.

Is it secure to add my bank account information?

Absolutely. We never save (or even see) your bank account information in any way, shape or form. We use a payment service called Stripe which utilises industry-leading security standards, and when you enter your bank account details, they are sent directly to Stripe over a secure connection. Stripe then respond with a secure token which we can use to create your payment account. In that way, even if the worst should happen, your bank account details are never compromised with us.

Why is my payment account 'unverified'?

The payment processor provides details of your account status, which includes its verification status. Once you have created your payment account and added your bank details, your bank will want to verify your identity. This is all part of the UK’s Money Laundering Regulations 2007 and are put in place to ensure that your identity is secure and your financial details are not misused.

When your payment account status is unverified it means that your bank would like to verify your identity for your bank account. To that end, we provided a simple form in your account page for you to upload a photo of your ID. After submitting, your payment account status will change to pending while your ID is reviewed; after which, assuming everything looks good to your bank, it will be verified and you’re all squared away!

Note that, as long as both Charges and Transfers are enabled on your account, then you can continue to receive donations directly to your bank account even before your account is verified.

Why is my payment account 'pending'?

This simply means that you have successfully uploaded your identification and it is currently being reviewed. Once this is done and assuming everything looks good, your account will automatically become verified.

Buying Gifts

How do I know if I'm buying gifts for the right person?

When making a purchase, the gift list you’re buying from should state clearly who it is for and ideally have a picture so you can easily identify them. In addition, when you are checking out, the site will clearly display the details of who you are donating your gift to. Ultimately, you need to be sure that you’re sending gifts to the right person.

You should always be certain that you are buying gifts for someone you know and trust, as the money for those gifts goes directly to that recipient and cannot be refunded by us. If you are not sure, you should contact the person directly and ask them to confirm any details.

Can I pay for a gift with PayPal?

Unfortunately not at this time. However, we do accept all major credit and debit cards.

Can I get a refund on a gift purchase?

If you purchased a gift through a BuyABrickForUs gift list, there is, unfortunately, no way for us to issue a refund; all gift donations are made directly to the recipient (that is, the owner of the gift list). If you require a refund for any reason, you will need to contact them directly.

Will I or the person I'm buying for receive an actual gift?

When we mention to ‘gifts’ or ‘donations’ anywhere on the site, we are specifically referring to monetary donations made directly to gift list owners (that is, the people whose gift list you purchased the virtual gifts from). The gifts on the gift list are virtual, so no physical, tangible or downloadable goods are provided; instead, the monetary value those gifts represent is transferred directly to the gift list owner, minus any transaction and card processing fees. They will receive an email about your gift, along with your note (if you wrote one), and the money will appear in their account within the next 7 days.
